Maori Myths And Legends

Before anything else there was Tekaia the nothingness then came the sky father and the earth mother. One of their son’s got angry of seeing nothing but darkness so he pulled the sky father and the earth mother apart. Soon after Maui was born he was the first demigod. Soon he became the best fisherman in his village.

One day he went on a fishing trip with his four brothers Roto, Mua, Pea and Taha they went so far out that all sight of land was lost. Maui felt something hit the side of the Waka “stop!” He yelled to his brothers “we’re here” Maui grabbed his powerful fish hook that he made from his grandma's jaw bone, he threw it into the sea. As something big pulled the rope Maui yelled “I’ve got a great fish” Maui pulled and pulled using all of his power to lift the fish he pulled up the great fish of Maui that is also named the North Island of New Zealand.  

As the brothers went to go see their earth mother, they got caught in a bad storm and their Waka got stuck on some rocks and as the ice cold water and the freezing cold wind turned the brothers to stone they became the South Island of New Zealand.

Kapiti Coast needs more Skateparks.

I think that more skate park should be built in the Kapiti Coast. Because most of the the kids in the Kapiti Coast ride a ( Skateboard,Bike or Scooter) and the skate parks we have now are not big enough and most of the people that go to that park are under the age of 16. So they can’t easily get to other parks like (Pram beach skatepark or BMX pram) and most of them go to the Otaki skatepark to. Now let me ask you do you want to be at a packed skatepark with no room to practise.

Since we only have a two skateparks that we can go to in the Kapiti Coast this is what is happening to them.  Unsavoury characters are always hanging around so you never feel safe.There is trash everywhere because they never put in the bins so it covers the hole skatepark And there is spray paint all over the park to. Which doesn't help learning to skate.

I recently did a survey at waikanae primary school and 40 kids feel safe at all the Kapiti Coast skate parks. But 22 say they don’t feel safe at the kapiti coast skate parks. Because of unsavoury characters.So I asked these questions to the year 7 and 8’s of Waikanae Primary School.

1.How many of you have a skateboard, scooter or a bike?

2.Would you like to go to the skateparks on the Kapiti coast with it?

3.If you went to a skatepark would you feel safe without a guardian?

4.How many of you have been to a skatepark in the last year?

5.What puts you off going now?

What’s the solution to this we build another skate park some were in the Kapiti Coast district.

The last skatepark built in Kapiti Coast was a little skate park built in Otaki. That was built in 2014. But it was a park for kids who did not feel comfortable on their wheels. So it was isn’t really suitable for more advanced scooter’s,biker’s or skateboard’s and this is what that skate park looks like now and since it’s 2016. It’s the perfect time for more skateparks in Kapiti Coast.

So in conclusion the solution to crowded parks and domination of unsavoury characters is to build more skateparks for kids of our age  so they can pick and choose where they go to.

Term 2 writing

Ethan: This term we have been looking at ways to make our writing more interesting for the reader.

We have used the following criteria to guide us:

• Changing the word order of a sentence
• Using literary devices such as metaphor, simile, alliteration, onomatopoeia and  personification
• Using specific verbs and adjectives
• Using  show, don’t tell techniques
• Using different sentence beginnings and lengths

Show,Don’t Tell-Emotions

Sadness-He’s gone mum says in a soft voice, as tears run down my face. My dog ruby has run awayfor good. I can’t accept the truth I keep saying she will come back but she never did.

Anger-One day I was in my room looking for a dollar from the tooth fairy, when under my pillow I touched something. I pull it from under my pillow and it's my tooth. I threw my pillow across the room till it hit my bedroom door.

Happy-On Saturday night my daddy coming home with  a big box in his arm. He put it on the table and kneeled down and looked me straight in the face and said it's for you. I ran over to the box and started ripping the paper of. When I looked inside it was a new teddy I started to jump up and down I decided  stay up all night playing with it.

Music - The pond

Once upon a time there were 4 ants, there names where Riley,Josh,Laurence and Ethan. One day they were so excited when they found a sleeping cat so as the funny ants they are they went to go pick up the cat and put him into some water. As they were just in front of the pond the cat woke up and freaked out shivering with fear  after seeing the water. The cat not seeing the ants, killed all four of the ants by standing on them. Now I’m here to tell their story because I saw the whole thing. I’m the frog that lives in the pond.

The Boy

I was walking through the park after school when a big kid came up to me, ‘’What you doing in my park kid’’ ‘’Walking home from school’’ I replied. Then he grabbed my bag and yelled ‘’ This is mine now’’ I said confle ‘’ No it’s mine you need to go home’’ the big kid didn’t say another word and dropped the bag and walked away but every couple of seconds he would stop and give me this evil steer But it didn’t hurt me I know I won.        Viking Girl She stood in front of me and shouted ‘’I want a pony’’ and I said  ‘’I’ll get you one when pigs fly’’ I replied. That's when she clicked she threw on she best viking helmet. As she was stomping towards me with rolling eyes and raised eyebrows, she looks to her right then goes over and throws a lamp on the floor. She then started to throw and smash everything in sight. Dangerously smashing a glass bottle on the floor. Starting to stomp towards her room.
